New BBM Update with Stickers, Larger Attachments and More

BBM users on BlackBerry 10, android and iOS have gotten a new update. The new update, which has already rolled out across the world brings with it:
*.Viber-esque stickers which you can download for free and purchase on the in-built BBM Shop

*.Ability to send larger files (up to 16MB on BlackBerry 10, Android and iPhone)

*.Ability to share pictures in multi-person chats making it easy to send a picture to several people and chat about it together.

Users on BlackBerry 10 are advised to upgrade to the newest official OS (10.2.1), to avoid having problems with the update. It has started rolling out already, so you can check your respective app stores if you haven’t gotten the notification yet.

How To Install Nokia X Launcher On Your Android Device

1. First download the Nokia X zip file Here, then copy the file to your android phone and flash the file with either CMW or TWRP recovery.

2. In other to Flash, just immediately after copying the file to your phone, then switch it off and the boot into recovery mood, remember to backup your android device when you get to recovery mood.

3. After backup, then in recovery mood select "Install zip from SD card", then click "choose zip from SD card". During the process, you are expected to find the Nokia X launcher zip file from where you copied it and confirm.

4. Once the flashing is completed, simply move back to the recovery main menu and click on "reboot system". Once your device have completely reboot, you would then notice the user interface of it, just exactly like the Nokia X dual sim smartphone. Nokia Announces Not One but Three Android Phones

After months of speculation and leaks, the hotly anticipated Android device from Nokia has been officially announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A bane to Windows Phone users and many die hard Nokia fans, this device is likely to be the last mobile phone announced by Nokia before it officially hands off its mobile phone division to Microsoft. The Nokia X runs a forked version of Android called Android Open Source Project AOSP similar to devices offered by Barnes & Nobles and Amazon. These devices are unique in that they are greatly customized and are not loaded with the Google services generally seen in devices from Samsung, HTC etc.

Nokia has struggled to build traction for its Asha line of devices since launch and the Nokia X is their attempt at responding to the growing number of lower end android devices eating into Nokia’s market share in developing economies. The Nokia X, X+ and XL specs speaks low end through and through and come with exciting features.

On the software side, the biggest showcase is the new Nokia App Store and its highly customized UI. The new Nokia Store will come preloaded with a host of apps but will also connect to other third party App stores such as Yandex to ensure access to all Android apps is possible. Borrowing heavily from the Windows phone tiled interface and its Asha counterpart, the Nokia X’s home screen comprises of boxed colorful re-sizable live tiles which can easily be customized to your liking. The core of the device includes Nokia's HERE suite of applications and interestingly, a host of Microsoft services including Skype and OneDrive.

Launching immediately is the Nokia X which will retail for 89 Euro or about $125. All Nokia X devices will come with one month of free global Skype calling and 10 GB of Microsoft OneDrive.

One of many questions that is expected to pop up on the interwebs is whether or not Microsoft will continue to develop and produce more Android devices post acquisition. It has been argued that the codename “Normandy” signifies Microsoft’s involvement with the project to seed Applications to the new Nokia store that will ultimately be ported to the Windows Phone store as a stop gap for the app gap. For many, the irony that Nokia’s last device happens to run a version of software loathed by Microsoft is an understatement and will continue to be a big subject for debate over the next few weeks.

Hot on the heels of the latest BBM release, we’re excited to announce that there are even more great new features on their way to BBM. This time, they are focused on making your BBM chats more fun with the addition of stickers, available in the new BBM Shop!

Unlike emoticons, stickers are bolder, more beautiful images that you can add right in to your chat. Download the Official BBM App for Android Gingerbread Users

Few weeks ago, we told you BlackBerry were busy cooking up a special release of BBM for Android Gingerbread, READ IT HERE. Now, we’re pleased to share that it’s ready and available for download.

This means that Android Gingerbread users can start to enjoy the immediacy, privacy and control of BBM to chat and share with friends, family and people they work with. And for existing BBM users, this release means that you can find even more of the people you want to talk to on BBM.

BBM 2.0 Update brings BBM Voice and Channels to Android and iOS

BBM’s next major update for android and iOS, which we exclusively told you about a few weeks ago, is now available for download for both platforms. Like we mentioned before, the update brings with it BBM Channels, BBM Voice, local sharing with Glympse, Dropbox integration and much more.

Nokia’s Low-end Android Phone Expected Later this Month

Nokia will introduce a new low-end handset that uses Google’s Android mobile operating system later this month in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress trade show, according to a report on Monday from The Wall Street Journal.

Nokia has been rumored for months to be working on a device that uses the open source Android operating system. The phone, which is aimed at developing markets, will be a low-end, inexpensive device.

According to various news reports, the device will not be able to access the Google Play application store. Instead, it will run services created by Nokia and Microsoft, including Here maps and MixRadio. Nokia will offer its own application store for the phone that will offer access to popular Android apps, such as Skype, Facebook, Twitter, and many others. The device code-named Normandy, may go by the name Nokia X, when it’s released.

According to reports, the phone will offer a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4-inch WVGA screen, 512MB of memory, 4GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. It’s expected to be available in a choice of six colors, and it will reportedly include a 5MP camera, a 1,500mAhbattery, and a dual-SIM setup.

Nokia is scheduled to hold a press conference in Barcelona at the MWC trade show on Monday, February 24. It’s believed the phone will be shown off at this event, according to the Journal.

BBM 2.0 for Android and iPhone Coming Soon: Here's What's New

A new update for BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on android and iOS “BBM 2.0″ would be available for download in a few weeks packing some new features which are currently in beta.

Here are the new features that will be making their way to your devices with the new update:

BBM Voice: BBM voice which has till now been exclusive to BBM on BlackBerry devices will be going cross-platform with this release. BBM Voice let’s you make voice calls to contacts over BBM.

Deeper OS Integration: The new update brings better integration with native services and a more OS specific design with elements picked for the app from the corresponding OSes. i.e the android app would have android design elements and the iOs app would feature iOS 7 design elements.

Quick Share: Quick share offers a “one-touch” menu for sharing stuff over BBM that’s tied to your native services.

Dropbox Integration: On BBM 2.0 Dropbox has been built into the quick share menu as a result, you’ll be able to share files stored on your dropbox directly over BBM.

Glimpse Integration: BBM 2.0 also gets integration with Glimpse a service that allows you share your location for a limited time privately. So with the update, you will be able to send timed location data to a contact on your BBM. The location would automatically deleted after the timer runs out.

One Touch Voice Notes: Much like whatsapp, BBM 2.0 would also gain the ability to send voice notes quickly push-to-talk style.

BBM Voice and Channels feature Coming Soon for Android Users

If you have been rocking BBM on android for a while and wondering when some of the other features available on the BlackBerry version would be coming to you, the answer to that is soon.

BlackBerry has just started testing the BBM Voice feature – which lets you make voice calls to other BBM contacts and BBM Channels – a private social network built over BBM which launched on BlackBerry some months ago on the new BBM for android beta. The Beta testing is a closed on so only the lucky few individuals who got invites from the BlackBerry Beta zone can access it right now.

The new features should be available for the public in a few weeks when the beta testing is done. As at right now, there is no word on when the video chat feature would make it to other platforms neither is there word of the same features making the jump to iOS as well but I’ll be surprised if it’s not also being tested as I type this.

Samsung Preparing to Unveil Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Brand at MWC

If a new report from the Korean Herald proves correct, Samsung could be gearing up to release two new wearables at Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year: the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 and the Galaxy Band.

The Korean publication says that the news of Samsung’s wearables come from reports from several ‘industry watchers’ including IBK Securities analyst Lee Seung-woo. In the analyst’s words, “Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy Gear 2, and the product will be surely released early next year”. Furthermore, an anonymous source that is ‘close to Samsung’ says that the Gear 2 will likely be unveiled at MWC, alongside the Galaxy Band.

So what do we know about the two wearables? First, the Galaxy Gear 2 is said to feature a flexible OLED display. Aside from that, we imagine the Gear will work to address some of the issues that have plagued the first-generation watch since its launch.

As for the Galaxy Band, this is reportedly a health wristband that can monitor your pulse and blood pressure. It would also have fitness purposes in a manner similar to devices like the Nike Fuelband.

So let’s recap: Today’s rumor claims there will be two Samsung wearable devices at MWC. If that sounds familiar, that’s because Korean publications Duam and Korea Herald reported yesterday that LG was gearing up to release a smartwatch and fitness band at MWC under the names G Arch and G Health (respectively).

So could the two Korean rival companies both be preparing very similar devices for unveiling at MWC? Considering the company rivalry and the fact that LG often seems to follow Samsung’s example when it comes to product design, it’s certainly possible.

On the other hand, Samsung generally saves its big news events for special Unpacked events. Two new Samsung wearables certainly sounds like the kind of news the Korean giant would want to reveal at their own event instead of just as “side news” to what is already going on at MWC.

For now, we’d take the entire report with a hefty chunk of salt. Either way, we should know more by Mobile World Congress, which is slated for February 24th through the 27th in Barcelona, Spain.

What to Expect from BBM in 2014

Today I want to give you a first look at some of the great new features we have up next for BBM. As a leader of the BBM product management group, I wanted to share this with you first hand, so, let’s dive in.

We haven’t slowed down since launching BBM for iPhone and Android in October and BBM Channels for BlackBerry 10 and BBOS in November. We’ve been working on some new ways to make it faster and easier to share with your BBM contacts. Whether it’s talking with BBM Voice, connecting over a BBM Channel, sending a quick photo, or even sharing your location, there’s more to BBM than just chatting. Here’s what’s up next from BBM:

1. BBM Voice for iPhone and android or as I like to say, free voice calls to any BBM contact anywhere in the world! Just another way that BBM helps to bring you together with people when you can’t be there in person – without having to pay long distance charges.

2. BBM Channels for iPhone and Android BBM Channels are a great way to join conversations happening with the BBM community beyond your contact list. By creating your own channel you can start conversations sparked by your thoughts, ideas and passions. Subscribing to a BBM channel lets you join conversations with others who share your interests. Already there are tons of great channels from Tim Hortons (C00121F5C) to Mercedes-Benz (C0009C84D) to the Toronto Raptors (C000171E7), and my personal favourite, Through my Lens (C00019476). And more are coming online every week. I find BBM Channels is a great way to make new Contacts as well.

3. Faster and easier sharing – from photos to voice notes, your location and more BBM chats happen fast – so fast it’s like you’re there in the same room. Now you can share just about anything with that same speed. Share photos in a snap, send a voice note with just one touch and more. And get this, you can even share your location, live, for a limited time with any contact you choose. When the timer runs out your location is private again. Perfect for when you’re meeting up with friends, stuck in traffic or lost at a concert. (Not that that’s ever happened to me ☺.)

4. Lots of new emoticons speaking of emoticons, ask and ye shall receive. We’ve got loads of new emoticons to help you make your point. 100 new emoticons in all! This includes a bunch that came from you, our fans. We can’t wait for you to meet all our new emoticons from ROTFL, Epic Fail, Face palm, a serious hug and yes, even a smiley-poo.

We’re beta testing these features now for release on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry 10 in the next couple of months so stay sharp, they’ll be here before you know it. For a closer look at these features in action check out this video:

Instagram Direct: Let’s you send Pictures using DM

Instagram has a new service of its own “Instagram Direct” that allows users send and receive pictures privately.

The service is which is added via a software update is accessed by a new icon in the top right corner of your home feed. Tap it and it would reveal your inbox where you’ll see photos and videos that people have sent to you. To send a photo or video to specific people, tap the camera button to enter the same simple photo or video capture and editing screens. At the top of the share screen, you’ll see the option to share with your followers (“Followers”) or to send to specific people (“Direct”). To send using Direct, tap the names of the people you want to send your photo or video to, write your caption, tap “send” and you’re done.

  After sending, you’ll be able to find out who’s seen your photo or video, see who’s liked it and watch your recipients commenting in real time as the conversation unfolds.

You will find the new instagram update with the new Instagram Direct on iTunes and Google Play.

Samsung Working on 20 Megapixel Camera Tablet

Samsung will be the latest manufacturer to get into the megapixel race, according to a report from ET News. The company's Mobile Advanced Development team is already working on 20 megapixel camera modules.

The global market leader is allegedly still facing difficulties with the implementation of Optical Image Stabilization option, so it's looking for other means to differentiating its products.

Samsung's upcoming camera module is expected to debut in the second half of next year.

The South Korean manufacturer expects to ship 90 million smartphone units in 2014 with16 megapixel camera sensors.

Airtel to Block Other Devices from Accessing their BIS Plan starting December 3rd

Airtel Nigeria’s sending SMSes to its customers letting them know that starting from the 3rd of December, (2013), they would be blocking non-BlackBerry access to their BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).

Their BIS plans have been a source of cheap internet to android and iOs users for a while now in these parts. While we are on the matter, that’s a great place to start looking for your next plan, if you have depended on Airtel’s BIS for your other devices.

The new move, which is probably due to either revenue leakage or degraded quality of service for the actual BIS subscribers will leave many non-BlackBerry users in these parts unamused.

If its any consolation, you can get all you can from their BBM plans HERE for a decent price from your android or iOs device.

HTC One GPE Getting Android 4.4 KitKat

The Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One Google Play Edition has been ready for a little over a week and is finally starting its rollout. The update should be available over the air, but you can also download it from here:

The update weighs in at 305MB. It brings the new ART runtime, which Google is vetting to replace Dalvik. Users have been reporting noticeable speed increases and reduction in lag, but ART still has some way to go as certain apps crash under it.

Anyway, HTC just released the source codes for the stock and framework components of the HTC One GPe.

Samsung did the same for the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition and while there's no official announcement that the 4.4 KitKat update is ready, it can't be long now. This is also good news for the modding community, which is hard at work to port Android 4.4.
