According to reports, Boko Haram members launched a fresh attack on indigenes of Izghe, a Christian community in Gwoza LGA of Borno State, killing 106 people on Saturday, February 15th.
According to eye witnesses, the men who came dressed in military attire, chanted Allah is great as they slit the throats of the people they came across and also fired gun shots at them.
Confirming the attack, Senator Ali Ndume who represents that senatorial district in the National Assembly says 106 people were killed including an old woman.
"106 people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen. Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial,” he said.
Reports say the militants came with rocket propelled Grenade, AA-12 and other sophisticated weapons which scatters the body of its target. This is the main reason why the military personnel stationed in that area couldn't contain the situation leading to the death of the large number of people because they were armed with AK 47 rifles which were not as powerful as the ones the Boko Haram men came with. But this has been dismissed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Olajide Laleye who said the army was well equipped for the battle and that they never retreated during the faceoff withe sect members.
