22yr old mother sells her one-month old baby for N430k in Onitsha

22 year old Chinelo Huma, (pictured below), who got pregnant while she was engaged in prostitution, sold her 1-month baby for N430,000. She, alongside 3 others, have been arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Enugu State Police Command.

Sunday Sun reports;

Three other women, Nkechi Ugochukwu, Maria Asomba and Esther Obi, who allegedly played roles in the sale of the baby were traced to Onitsha, Anambra State and arrested by the police.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu who disclosed this, told Sunday Sun that Huma got pregnant while prostituting. Her boyfriend who was not quite ready to bear the responsibility of fatherhood rejected Huma’s pregnancy.

Incidentally, Huma already had two children, who were being cared for by her mother. So having another child out of wedlock was not an idea that appealed to her one bit and she decided to relieve herself of the burden of caring for the baby.

Her words:

“I am a prostitute. When I became pregnant and it was close to nine months, my boyfriend rejected it. I decided to sell the baby. When I gave birth on April 13th, 2014, one lady whose name is Maria Asomba, arranged for the baby to be sold to Mrs. Nkechi Ugochukwu, and she paid N430,000, but Asomba gave me N150,000.

“When the police arrested Ugochukwu, I told them I didn’t want the baby again, because I already have two children and my mother is taking care of them.”

Adamu explained that 43-year-old Ugochukwu had for long desired to have a child of her own but was unable to conceive. The arrangement to source the baby was facilitated by one Esther Obi, who nursed the newborn for two weeks before handing her over to Ugochukwu.

The Commissioner of Police further revealed that Asomba, 35, specialized in looking recruiting pregnant ladies that were willing to dispose of their babies after giving birth.

The police learnt about the ignoble act, Adamu said the Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Supol Gloria Udoka (DSP) and her team swung into action and traced the suspects to a jungle in Onitsha, where the one-month old was rescued. The police team also arrested Ugochukwu.

Giving more insight to the sordid affair, the deputy head of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Supol Anyai Dennis (CSP) expressed disgust that even after the baby was recovered, Huma insisted she didn’t want to keep the baby.

Supol Dennis added that Ugochukwu was reluctant to hand over the baby as she had led her neighbours to believe she had given birth and would feel a deeply embarrassed, given that she had made arrangements for the baby already named as Chinasa.

Expressing her pain at the turn of events, Ugochukwu lamented:

“I have been barren for years and I needed a child. My husband’s kinsmen have been maligning and making jest of me because I don’t have a child. I borrowed N430,000 to buy the child; my husband is aware of the baby. The baby was brought to me on April 17th, 2014. When I took the baby to my compound all my neighbours congratulated me over the new baby; policemen came and took the baby from me. I don’t want my money back. I need the baby. I have named the baby Chinasa and I am already planning to dedicate her in church.”

That desire now appears to be a pipe dream as the Commissioner of Police has given a firm assurance that all the suspects would be charged to court soon for human trafficking.

PHOTO: Jos Bomb Explosion, Killed Only the Suicide Bomber

Less than a week after multiple explosions killed over 200 people in Jos, the Plateau State capital, another round of explosion just went off in the city last night. And according to residents, the explosion occurred around 9pm, along Bauchi Road  near the University of Jos, Jos North Local Government Area.

Reuters reports that the explosion was a botched suicide bombing that was meant to target an open air viewing of a football match in the central Nigerian city of Jos and it killed just the bomber. The bomber approached Jos View Centre while people were watching Real Madrid play Atletico Madrid, but failed to get there before his car exploded.

The spokesperson of the Police State Command of the Nigeria Police, Felicia Ali, has confirmed the incident but said details were still sketchy.

Abducted Girls Seen By Nigerian Military For The 1st Time, 200 Miles From Where They Were Abducted

The schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria by Islamic militants have been sighted for the first time, it was reported locally on Thursday.

More than 200 girls were snatched from their school five weeks ago by Boko Haram, a terrorist group linked to Al-Qaeda.

The girls have been tracked to three camps in the north of Nigeria, near Lake Chad, 200 miles from where they were abducted, senior officials told a Nigerian newspaper.

However, they added that it may still take a week to free the girls.

‘It has been a most difficult but heroic breakthrough,’ a senior military official told Nigeria’s Premium Times newspaper.

Another added: 'Our team first sighted the girls on April 26 and we have been following their movement with the terrorists ever since.'

The development comes after 150 people were killed in bomb and gun attacks by the militants across the country this week.

On Tuesday night a double car bombing in a market in the central city of Jos killed at least 130 civilians, while two days later another 48 died when militants stormed and burned settlements near Chibok.

#We really hope this sighting of these kidnapped Chibok girls is for real!!!

We Are Not Ashamed to be Called the Church of the Rich – Bishop Oyedepo

Founder, Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, in a new, very revealing interview with Punch talked about the numerous stories we've heard about his church and how most of them are lies plus how he reacts to them.

Excerpts:

*.Why are there so many rich people in Winners?

Because they know better than their contemporaries. If you don’t know what you have, you won’t know if you are deprived of it. The Bible is an open chequebook, it is by revelation we access what belongs to us; by faith we take delivery of it. Someone had access to our empowerment programme and she is a pepper seller, while others sell one basket a day, she sells six, seven. I learnt she had become the envy of all the pepper sellers in her area. Such person has an understanding that whatever she does, she prospers and she knows that when she pays her tithe, she experiences open heavens. But in case people don’t know, they perish for lack of knowledge, and in case they think when you are rich you miss heaven, then they perish for lack of knowledge.

*.So, it’s right when people claim that this church is only for the rich?

It’s for all the people who believe that Jesus already paid for them to be rich. And those who don’t believe, when they come they start believing when they see it happen in a lot of people’s lives. And we are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich. If they call your family poor, will you be excited? Nobody would be excited. Even when a family is poor, they hate to be called poor. No man in his right mind enjoys being called poor, and nobody truly wants to be poor, people may pretend. Which is more honourable between being a giver and a beggar? Most of us came in very poor, but the light of God’s word came on us and we walked out of poverty in grand style into wealth and riches.

*.We learnt your church members once donated about 700 cars as seed and that the cars were given to the pastors?

It’s important to mention that there was no time that I know in the history of this church where there were 700 cars. There is no such story. People can make anything out of anything. There was a time they said we had six planes, and I said they didn’t count them well, they should be up to 30 so that we use one each day of the month.

Those are things that make news in the social media even when they are lies. People give here because they are taught to give, because we understand from the scriptures that it is the only way to increase.

Every normal Winner takes good care of his parents. We also give to the poor. My family has sponsored close to 150 people out of university and others at Landmark University are on scholarship on our own ticket because of our commitment to agriculture.

It is a lifestyle; it didn’t start yesterday or two days ago. Since 1992, I have been consciously sponsoring students in various universities in Nigeria. The church is blessed because the church is a giving church. Just today (before you came), I signed millions for people who have health needs from the welfare account. And that continues. For instance, the church gives scholarships annually, not N100m or N150m. And it’s not in the news. And that we have been doing for years.

*.How do you feel when people accuse you of flying in jets and spending church money to maintain the jets?

I feel very good. It’s an opinion. Let me tell you what my understanding of persecution is; it’s simply an opinion harshly expressed. And everybody has a right to his opinion. People who are walking in the truth are hardly bothered when things are said negatively about them because they have nothing to hide.

The truth is I have never felt it, some say it’s not human, but I have not. I can’t be wasting my time trying to reply lies because I have too many things to do. They are doing their work, let me be doing my work too and before they wake up in the morning, I’ve done the next one, so, it doesn’t matter.

When we started Convenant University, so many people said it would not work, now, we hosted two Nobel Laureates this week, whereas no Nigerian university has ever hosted one in the history of university education in Nigeria. Now, it is the most pronounced and preferred private university in Nigeria. In fact, they say this is the university of the future; that is what they say in the university community. Those who said it could not work now have their children here because they have changed their mind.

Some people say how can you tell children how to dress? We have to do that so they won’t behave like mad people on the street. They say how can you tell them they can’t use phone? We tell them so they would be disconnected from cultism. Ask me anything, I can tell you why we did it.

Where are you going to find the President of a nation with a woven hair? I can tell you that in the next 100 years, you won’t find a male president using earring because they would count you as irresponsible, even in the secular world, they won’t see anything in you. As free as America is, have you ever seen any minister there with earrings? The person may be qualified, but he will be termed irresponsible. But if you train these children how to carry themselves, it will open up their future. Everywhere you get to in this world, people are looking for responsible people, who don’t only say so, but prove so. So, all the opinions on Covenant University have died now because we didn’t stop pursuing what we believe was right and now it has become a standard.

*.Some people think there are too many churches in Nigeria and the best way to make money is to establish a church…

Let them go and start one. Almost every house in some parts of Nigeria is a mosque. So what is the complaint about? Multitudes still flock the roads on Sunday mornings going nowhere. Are churches enough? No. Until everybody is saved and everybody is off the street on Sunday mornings, we don’t have enough churches. So for those who are angry, they would be angry for too long because we haven’t seen churches yet. A time is coming on Sunday morning that we won’t see anybody on the street, because they would be in church.

Bomb Scare In Onitsha Main Market

THE Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday raised an alarm over what it called a plot by members of the Boko Haram sect to bomb the popular Onitsha main market, Anambra state, Nigeria and some other markets in the South-East geo-political zone.

It therefore warned that MASSOB would resist any attempt to perpetrate such terrorism in any part of Igbo land which is also regarded as Biafra land, by all means and with the last drop of their blood.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday in a telephone chat, MASSOB’s National Director of Information,Comrade Uchenna Madu, said the Boko Haram’s plot was discovered by the MASSOB intelligence and security groups, adding that it is even possible that some of the Nigerian security agents would have equally perceived such an information.

Madu warned that should the insurgents attempt to execute the plot, whether successful or not, MASSOB would have no other option than to remove its non-violence posture and wear the violence garb for a revenge mission.

Reacting to the speculations, the Police Area Commander for Onitsha, Mr. Benjamin Wordu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, told newsmen on phone that although he had not heard of plot by the insurgents to attack Onitsha or any part of Igbo land from any authentic source, there is every tendency that rumour mongers would have cashed in on the recent concentration of attacks by the insurgents on major markets and motor parks in the North to nurse the fear of possible attacks on major markets in the South East region.

Charlie Sheen calls Rihanna "the Village idiot" in Twitter tirad

Rihanna responded to Charlie Sheen's initial tweet on Twitter, saying "If that old queen don't get ha diapers out of a bunch..."

Sheen continued his tirade against Rihanna on Thursday afternoon by issuing a statement through TMZ.

Once again written in the form of a poem, the "Anger Management" star poked fun at Rihanna's tweet by writing that "English is NOT [her] primary language."

He also thanked the singer for "recognizing [him] as Royalty," demanded she tend "to the dungeon in [his] Castle" and if that wasn't enough, completed the sweet poem by calling the her a "Doosh."

Rihanna has yet to acknowledge Charlie's latest statement but we're guessing she won't respond quietly.

This celeb war is only getting started!

Read Charlie Sheen's complete statement below:

"Dear Ms. Rihan-oh wait, no last name,Okay, Dear R -clearly English is NOT your primary language.

Firstly I want to thank you for recognizing me as Royalty. I'm flattered.

And secondly; do the good Queen a favor and go tend to the dungeon in my Castle.

But beware of the rats and the snakes.

They stir with folly awaiting your tepid advance, in the shadows..."later Doosh!cs"----Charlie Sheen isn't particularly pleased with Rihanna at the moment.

The Anger Management star took to Twitter yesterday's morning to slam Rihanna for (allegedly) snubbing his pornstar fiancée Scottine (a.k.a. Brett Rossi) while out at a restaurant on Wednesday night. As you can see from the tweet below, Charlie was so steamed over RiRi's diss that he couldn't contain his blast to a 140-character format.

Charlie's anti-Rihanna rant trashes the singer for the way she blew off his fiancée's request and berates RiRi for not respecting her fans. (He also takes a dig at Rihanna's wig, calls her a "big ol liar" and uses the hashtag #Hamateur.)

We have the complete Twitter tirade below. Give it a read and let us know what you think. Do you think Rihanna deserves this chewing out or is Charlie Sheen just blowing up over nothing? Share your thoughts in the comments.

"so,I took my gal out to dinner last night with her best friends for her Bday. we heard Rihanna was present as well.

I sent a request over to her table to introduce my fiancée Scotty to her, as she is a huge fan. (personally I couldn't pick her out of a line-up at gunpoint)

well, the word we received back was that there were too many paps outside and it just wasn't possible at this time.

At this time? AT THIS TIME??
lemme guess, we're to reschedule another random 11 million to 1 encounter with her some other night...?no biggie for me; it would have been 84 interminable seconds of chugging Draino and "please kill me now" that I'd never get back.

My Gal, however, was NOT OK with it.

Nice impression you left behind, Bday or not.

Sorry we're not KOOL enough to warrant a blessing from the Princess.(or in this case the Village idiot) you see THIS is the reason that I ALWAYS take the time.

THIS is why I'm in this thing 31 awesome years.

Good will and common courtesy, carefully established over time to exist radically in concert with a code of gratitude!

I guess "Talk That Talk" was just a big ol lie from a big ol liar.

oh and Riahnna, Halloween isn't for a while.

but good on you for testing out your costume in public.

it's close; a more muted pink might be the answer, as in: none.

See ya on the way down,(we always do) and actually, it was a pleasure NOT meeting you.

clearly we have NOTHING in common when it comes to respect for those who've gone before you.

I'm guessing you needed those precious 84 seconds to situate that bad wig before you left the restaurant.

Here's a tip from a real vet of this terrain; If ya don't wanna get bothered DONT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE! and if this "Prison of Fame"is soooooooo unnerving and difficult, then QUIT, junior!#Hamateur"

What do you think?

A warning to all Maheeda haterz

Please read Etcetera's latest article, warning you all Maheeda haters to leave the chic alone.

For any social network groupie, a name like Maheeda doesn’t need any form of introduction. All thanks to her for stripping down Nigeria’s entertainment Walk Of Fame or Walk Of Shame, stirring up emotions on her wake.

Maheeda would have probably been sitting on a long thing if she had decided to lull her way into our hearts. But instead, she chose to put everyone on a much longer thing with her strip tease. And in the process, she snatched the “Queen of the Naked” crown from Afro Candy with her head still attached to it. Judging by her body language, anyone gunning for that crown should be ready to outstrip her and inspire more damning comments than hers.

Some of you reading this article know for certain that if Maheeda was getting paid for every of your clicks on her posts, she probably would be one of the richest celebs in Nigeria today.

For God’s sake, enough with the hates. Leave Maheeda alone. Everything she does is off a well-written script and she plays her role perfectly well just like Kim in keeping up with the Kardashians. And I guess everyone but Nollywood can see her potentials. Well, who can blame our poor dear Nolly? It is not her fault that she was born blind.

Whether anyone sees it or not, it is without a doubt that Maheeda has made a powerful statement and used controversy to boost her career. Her stunts are no way different from what we have seen in the past from well known artistes in other climes.

Is she seeking for attention? Of course she is. But aren’t we all here in entertainment for that sole purpose? Besides, Maheeda has never said she wanted to be a role model for kids. That is Ben 10’s Job.

All my life as a musician, I have never come across anything as the perfect formula for making a hit song. You can only decide a more convenient and cost effective way to publicise your works to your audiences. It is said that there is no bad publicity in entertainment, meaning the criticisms further point her in the right direction towards her desired aims.

Artistes have been pushing envelopes for years and using their bodies as extras to woo audiences. Television in Nigeria is fast becoming a graveyard of dead and boring programmes due to the strict regulations of NBC. While videos like Maheeda’s and Timaya’s Ukwu are gaining more viewers for cable TV channels. There’s definitely no wahala in nudity as far as the world of art is concerned.

Maheeda seems prepared to deal with the consequences, good or bad. She has already made it clear to all and sundry that she believes in what she does. And I think it is great. What is so offensive about the human body anyway? Not like she is doing what none of us have seen or heard of before.

People should try and lighten up and give her a break. What better way for her to drum up publicity in this already saturated industry of ours. If we all must go only by NBC’s regulations and get all dressed up every time we stand before a camera, won’t it all be too normal and normal they say is boring.

And while we sit awaiting the next stunt of the nude high priestess, let me borrow a line from Russell Crow the gladiator, are you not entertained?

Jeans Wear Are Not Meant To Be Washed - Levi Strauss CEO

On Tuesday, the CEO of American denim pioneer Levi Strauss publicly admitted that the jeans he was wearing while speaking at Fortune’s ‘Brainstorm Green’ conference hadn’t been washed since he purchased them over a year ago.

And people are so freaking out.

Chip Bergh had told the audience:
“These are one of my favorite jeans—[they] are maybe a year old, and they have yet to see a washing machine. I know that sounds totally disgusting… but believe me, it can be done! You can spot clean it, you can air dry it, and it's fine. I have yet to get a skin disease or anything else. It works."

When moderator, Andy Sewer, who obviously seemed a bit taken aback, asked Bergh the age-old question: how often should one be washing their jeans then?

Bergh answered:
“Not very often. If you talk to real denim aficionados, they’ll tell you, don’t wash your blue jeans.”

Washing denim has always been a complicated and hotly debated issue—how often it should be done, what tools should be utilized, whether or not it collects bacteria, etc.
