Femi has however gone on Twitter to congratulate the winners, he tweeted this, “congrats to the winners. The nomination made my year means they know and listen to Afrobeat.”
Even though Femi lost the award, his fans all over has been sending congratulatory messages and showing their support on Twitter.
This is the fourth time Femi has been nominated for a Grammy in the World Music Album category, he had previously been nominated thrice earlier–2003, 2010, 2012, in the same category but has never won the award. No Nigerian has also ever won the prestigious award.
Among several artistes that have carried on the Afrobeat struggle after its creator Fela Kuti passed on, no one has done more to Afrobeat than Femi Kuti. Against incredible odds, Femi has consistently been increasing the fortunes of the genre and breaking previously unimaginable grounds all around the world.
Since conquering the challenges of the early days and consequently shutting up naysayers and armchair critics alike with his unparalleled success, Femi has probably done more for Afrobeat than anyone can ever imagine.
