PHOTO: NDLEA Arrests Popular Comedian for Drugs Ingestion

A popular Ghanaian comedian, Musah Iddrisu, and a Congolese, Inana Cedrick, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for ingesting drug.

Iddrisu and Cedrick were arrested during the inward and outward screening of Ethiopian airline passengers respectively at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

NDLEA Commander at the airport, Mr. Udoh Nsikak-Abasi, said, “Iddrisu was found to have ingested 450 grammes of cocaine. He was on his way to Thailand.  Cedrick was caught with 1.500 kilogrammes of heroin which he tried importing into the country.“

A third suspect, a Nigerian, John Nwadilichukwu, was also arrested.  He was to receive Cedrick at the airport, collect the drug and pay him for smuggling the drug.

The heroin was said to have been hidden inside a luggage.

Twenty-year-old Cedrick, who claimed to be a secondary school student in Tanzania, said, “I was given the drug in Nairobi by a Nigerian woman who told me to give the drug to her husband, Nwadilichukwu, in Enugu.“

I wanted to use the money they promised to pay me in buying beads for sale in Tanzania. I am a secondary school student from a poor home.”

Iddrisu, aka Charles Udunehi, who bought the cocaine for $19,000, said he had wanted to sell them in Thailand.

He said, “I got involved in drug trafficking because of my financial predicament.

I bought the drugs in Ghana, ingested it and came to Enugu airport. As it is a new airport, I felt the security will not be like other airports, but I was wrong.”

Chairman of the NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said adequate efforts had been made to apprehend drug traffickers at the Enugu airport.

He said, “We have already deployed our officials to the Enugu airport before it commenced international flights. Adequate security measures have been put in place to apprehend drug traffickers at the airport.”

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale have been sentenced today  in Old Bailey, London.

Adebolajo was given a whole-life jail term and Adebowale was sentenced to 45 years in prison – meaning he could be back on the streets by the time he is aged 67.

According to reports, immediately after the sentencing, Lee Rigby’s murderers began hurling abuse at the judge and fighting with prison guards, yelling ’Allahu Akbar’ and ‘You (Britain) and America will never be safe’ as they were about to be jailed in London.

The killers had to be pinned to the ground by nine security guards and Rigby’s family began sobbing as they watched the incident in horror, being handed tissues by court staff.

The prisoners were dragged down to the cells – one head first – and were sentenced in their absence by judge Justice Sweeney.

The extremists could be heard banging onthe cell ceilings after being taken down asthe judge condemned their ‘barbaric’ murder.

Boy Sold in Exchange of Two Bags of Rice

However, when the shop owner returned in the afternoon, she was surprised to see Seun who was dropped there in exchange for the two bags of rice taken away by the unidentified man.

When the man failed to return, the 15-year old was held hostage until evening when the pastor of his church, a Celestial Church of Christ around the area, saw him at the shop looking despondent.

When Seun was questioned on how he came about the fraudster, he said he met him casually at Hotel Bus Stop about 300 metres to his residence where a church member had sent him on an errand to play lotto, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu”.

Seun said he did not know the man’s house or have other information about him.

The teenager later regained his freedom when the Celestial Church pastor, known simply as Oluso in the neighborhood, settled the matter with Iya Ibrahim, the rice seller.

He said the woman should take responsibility for one of the stolen bags of rice while Seun’s father, a co-worker with him in the church, should pay for the other bag of rice when he returned from his trip to Ifo in Ogun State. Seun’s  father agreed to pay N10,000 for the bag of rice when he returned from Ifo.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the rice seller agreed to the pastor’s proposal and did not report the matter to the police.

“If I report the incident to the police, I cannot leave the station without spending money. Therefore, it is better for me to accept the proposal by Oluso, the rice seller told residents who gathered in front of her shop to watch the drama.

When Ibrahim was questioned why he allowed such an unusual arrangement, he told residents that the conman asked for two and half bags of rice, adding, “when the motorcycle was about to go with the two bags, I asked for the money but Seun assured me he was coming back for the half bag. He even claimed to be a close relation of the man.”

However, some hours after the man had disappeared and failed to return, Ibrahim said Seun retracted his earlier statement, saying he did not know the man.

How my School Mates were Killed - Yobe's Carnage Survivor

Here is an account from one of the survivors of the Yobe massacre, a sad recurring decimal in the Northern part of Nigeria nowadays; “I was shot on my left leg, while I was sleeping. When I woke up, I could not walk and was later taken to the girls hostel where the insurgents gathered us with the female students. They selected some of the female students and went away with them, while they left some of us groaning in pain from gun shot”.

Those were the words of 14-year-old Ibrahim Musa Lampo, a JSS 2 student of Federal Government College, FGC, Bunu Yadi, Yobe State who was one of the lucky survivors of the Boko Haram massacre on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of 43 students. The insurgents also burnt the hostels, classrooms and more than 40 houses during the attack.

Ibrahim who recounted his experience while groaning in pains was receiving treatment for gunshot injuries at the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu.

His mother, Hajiya Hauwa Lampo, who was sitting beside him on the hospital bed lamented the inability of government to protect the lives of the innocent students. The mother passionately appealed to the Federal Government to “provide adequate security for all unity schools in Nigeria, particularly in the north eastern region of the country by constructing a fence that will shield the students from intruders. And if the government can not deploy adequate security personnel, they should despatch sniffer dogs into the schools to patrol every nook and corner and this will go a long way in curbing the insurgency.”

Ibrahim’s father, Mallam Musa Lampo, an immigration officer was still in shock over the incident and simply said: “I have committed everything into the hands of God.”

Nokia Announces Not One but Three Android Phones

After months of speculation and leaks, the hotly anticipated Android device from Nokia has been officially announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. A bane to Windows Phone users and many die hard Nokia fans, this device is likely to be the last mobile phone announced by Nokia before it officially hands off its mobile phone division to Microsoft. The Nokia X runs a forked version of Android called Android Open Source Project AOSP similar to devices offered by Barnes & Nobles and Amazon. These devices are unique in that they are greatly customized and are not loaded with the Google services generally seen in devices from Samsung, HTC etc.

Nokia has struggled to build traction for its Asha line of devices since launch and the Nokia X is their attempt at responding to the growing number of lower end android devices eating into Nokia’s market share in developing economies. The Nokia X, X+ and XL specs speaks low end through and through and come with exciting features.

On the software side, the biggest showcase is the new Nokia App Store and its highly customized UI. The new Nokia Store will come preloaded with a host of apps but will also connect to other third party App stores such as Yandex to ensure access to all Android apps is possible. Borrowing heavily from the Windows phone tiled interface and its Asha counterpart, the Nokia X’s home screen comprises of boxed colorful re-sizable live tiles which can easily be customized to your liking. The core of the device includes Nokia's HERE suite of applications and interestingly, a host of Microsoft services including Skype and OneDrive.

Launching immediately is the Nokia X which will retail for 89 Euro or about $125. All Nokia X devices will come with one month of free global Skype calling and 10 GB of Microsoft OneDrive.

One of many questions that is expected to pop up on the interwebs is whether or not Microsoft will continue to develop and produce more Android devices post acquisition. It has been argued that the codename “Normandy” signifies Microsoft’s involvement with the project to seed Applications to the new Nokia store that will ultimately be ported to the Windows Phone store as a stop gap for the app gap. For many, the irony that Nokia’s last device happens to run a version of software loathed by Microsoft is an understatement and will continue to be a big subject for debate over the next few weeks.

BlackBerry Unveils BlackBerry Z3 and Q20

BlackBerry has announced a new duo of smartphones at the MWC 2014 - the BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Q20.

The BlackBerry Z3 is a full-touch smartphone with a 5" display and runs BlackBerry OS 10.2.1. BlackBerry CEO John Chen says that this is the first phone to come up with the strategic partnership with Foxconn.

Sadly, that's all we know on the phone's hardware so far since BlackBerry hasn't unveiled any more specs.

Update: specifications of the Z3 came in and the 5" display boasts a qHD resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 chipset and 1.5GB of RAM. Internal storage is 8GB, but there's no information if there's a microSD card slot available.

At the back, there's a 5MP camera, while at the front there's a 1.1MP one. Music lovers would also like the fact that the Z3 features an FM Radio, too.The phone will hit Indonesia in April and will cost less than $200 off contract.

As for the BlackBerry Q20, the company has gone back to its roots and the phone features a physical QWERTY keyboard and a trackpad. It seems, the BlackBerry wants to attract some of its core fans back and offers them a phone they'll be productive with.

Here’s a quote from John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry regarding the Q20.

"In my first 90 days on the job, I consistently heard from our ardent BlackBerry customers that the hard buttons and trackpad are an essential part of the BlackBerry QWERTY experience, that made their BlackBerry smartphone their go-to productivity tool. I want these customers to know that we heard them, and this new smartphone will be for them. Today, we’re delighted to announce the new BlackBerry Q20 smartphone, which is designed to give you the distinct experience that every BlackBerry QWERTY loyalist and high-productivity business customer absolutely loves. With the BlackBerry Q20 smartphone, you’ll get the familiar hard buttons and trackpad that you want, along with the best email service, the best keyboard experience and the best battery life possible."

The Menu, Back, Send and End buttons and the trackpad will be made an integral part of the device and user interface and in conjunction with the 3.5" display, BlackBerry says the phone will offer the best email experience on the market. The company also states that the Q20 will be made of premium materials, which will result in reliability and durability, but doesn't specify which ones.

We wish BlackBerry had disclosed more details, but that's not the case. We'll keep you posted for any new information that comes up. Hopefully BlackBerry will shed more light on the specs soon enough.

KCee's Five Star Music Sued

QuestionMark Entertainment boss, Kelvin Luciano, has filed a N20m suit against Kcee’s Five Star Music Label.

The suit was filed against singer Harrysong for breaking his contract with QuestionMark, and against Five Star Music for entering into a new contract with HarrySong despite knowing that he was yet to serve out his contract with his former label.

According to a statement signed by Luciano, ’QuestionMark Entertainment was into separate exclusive music recording, artist management and music publishing contracts with HarrySong in 2009. The obligations of parties to the said contracts have neither lapsed nor have they been fulfilled.’However, reports reveal that the contracts, along with all attendant rights and liabilities of the parties,therefore still subsist since the contract was supposed to last for five years.

A source from QuestionMark’s camp disclosed that before the suit, Luciano had used all efforts and means to reach an amicable settlement with Harry Song and KCEE’s Five Star Music.

‘It is because of their nonchalant attitude that we have as decided to take the matter to court since they were not ready to sit and talk it out,’ the source,who requested anonymity, said.

Soso Soberekon who doubles as an exec at Five Star Music and KCEE’s manager denied receiving any court injunction on the matter.‘Kevin has been on this for a while but we are yet to receive any court injunction about this matter,’ he said.

He, however, admitted that negotiations are currently ongoing to resolve the matter.‘All I can tell you now is that we are currently discussing how we can settle this matter amicably without heightening it further,’ Soberekon said.

Suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sues President Jonathan

Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Lamido Sanusi has finally sued President Goodluck Jonathan before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, challenging his suspension from office.

In a suit filed late Monday by some of his lawyers, including Kola Awodein (SAN), Sanusi is urging the court to, among others, restrain the President and two others from giving effect to his purported suspension, pending the determination of his suit.

Also to be restrained are the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), sued with the President.

Sanusi is pleading for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from obstructing, disturbing,stopping or preventing him in any manner, from performing the functions of his office and enjoying in full, the statutory powers and privileges attached to the office of the governor of the CBN.

He said the interlocutory application he filed with the suit was necessitated by the issues raised in the suit.

Sanusi is of the view that delay could occasion irreparable, serious damage and mischief against him in the exercise of his statutory duties as the CBN Governor. He urged the court to grant the prayers contained in his interlocutory application, on the ground that the President’s alleged unlawful interference with the management and administration of the CBN, unless arrested, posed grave danger to the country’s economy.

He argued that granting his application will encourage parties to maintain the status quo, pending the determination of the substantive case. In a supporting affidavit, Sanusi averred that in the course of his duties as the CBN Governor, that he discovered certain discrepancies in respect of amounts repatriated to the federation account from the proceed of crude oil sales between the period of January, 2012 and July, 2013 and that he expressed concern in respect of the said discrepancies and had cause to inform the National Assembly of the said discrepancies because they affect the revenue of the federation and the national economy.

He stated that the President’s action, in purporting to suspend him from office, is aimed at punishing him for these disclosures. Sanusi stated that he is challenging the President’s power to suspend him from office, noting that the President did not approach nor obtain the support of the Senate, based on his discussions with several senators, including Senator Bukola Saraki.

“I have been informed, and I verily believe the information given to me by Senator Bukola Saraki to be true and correct that the Senate did not give the President any support for my purported suspension and removal from office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

Sanusi stated that the President’s actions in suspending him from office is contrary to provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act relating to the appointment and removal of the CBN Governor and that his purported suspension amounts to unlawful interference in the administration and management of the apex bank and is illegal, null and void. He urged the court, in the interest of justice, to grant his reliefs.

The corps members – Daniel O’ Tega and Sulaiman Abari, charged with committing acts of sexuality on one of their students have been discharged by an Ibadan Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Iyaganku.

The two accused were discharged, though not on merit, following the victim’s parents, Alhaji Hammed Sulaimon and Kafilat, of 65, Avenue Street, behind Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan’s wish that the case be withdrawn.

PHOTO: 50 Year Old Boxing Gloves Of Boxing Legend, Muhammed Ali Sold For $836,500k

Muhammed Ali’s 50 years old gloves which he wore when he won the world heavyweight championship title for the first time from Sonny Linston in Miami Beach, Florida, in February 1964 was on Saturday sold for $837K.

The gloves were kept by Ali’s personal trainer Angelo Dundee right after the legendary match, until his death in February 2012.

After that they remained at his son’s, who decided to sell them on the 50th anniversary of the fight to help pay family medical bills. Part of the money is promised to the Muhammed Ali Foundation. The buyer is still unknown as reports have it that he/she wished to remain anonymous.
