The Elder Statesman is University administrator and academician - Professor Oyewale Tomori, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ogun State.

Professor Tomori responded to Trumpet Media Group's report by posting his response on their website after they published a report asking ''Does anyone have a name for him?''

Below is his response:

"Yes, indeed, I know the person, because I am the one. I have responded to some of the blogs on the matter. The truth is this activity was done during the lunch break between 2-4 pm. As soon as the Chairman calls the meeting to order, I switch off my computer. Is there any rule against spending my free time as I like? Moreover, is there anything wrong, if others engage in reading newspapers and talking with others during their free time, and I prefer engaging in activities, I consider more useful to my development, such as using scrabble to improve my word power and discover new words?. Indeed, I often play against the best in the world, world champions, and I have been beaten many times. But in the process I learnt new words, their meanings and improve my written and spoken language."

Journalists live and sell their papers through the sensation route, which often is the opposite to telling the truth or providing full details. If the person who posted the picture had said the activity took place during the lunch break, that would have been no news; but to create sensation, he or she was economical with details.

"I will certainly continue to play such other mind engaging games like Sudoku, Logic, etc, if only to make me a better thinker and presenter. Only thing, is I will do this at my own free time!"

Return my ₦1.2m bride price before I divorce you, policeman tells wife…

A policeman, Anthony Ibemere, has told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos, Lagos State, that his wife should return the ₦1.2 million bride price if she insisted on divorce.

Thirty-eight-year-old Anthony was responding to a divorce suit filed by Uloma, his wife of four years, who accused him of battery.

“Uloma should return the money I gave her parents during our traditional marriage if she insists on the dissolution of our four-year-old marriage,” he told the court.

He accused his wife of hiding her marital status by telling people she was single.

“She joined a group of single ladies in her church. I went to the church with our weddingpictures as a proof  hat  he’s  married which  led to her suspension,” he said.

Anthony added that Uloma had abandoned their matrimonial home since November 24, 2012, when he informed the church of her marital status.

He, therefore, pleaded with the court not to grant his wife’s request of divorce, saying he still loves her.

On her part, 27-year-old  Uloma, a factory worker, told the court that  Anthony turned her into a punching bag mostly when he was drunk.

“My husband is a drunkard. Whenever he comes home drunk and wants to make love to me, I always refuse him. I want him to make love to me when he’s in his right senses.“

"And when  I refuse him, he will make love to me by force," she said.

The petitioner alleged that her husband always embarrassed her in public by calling her ‘a prostitute and barren tree.’

She also accused him of threatening her life and giving out her phone number to unknown persons, who were always calling and warning her not to proceed with the divorce  suit or else, she would be killed.

She begged the court to separate them, saying she was tired of the marriage.

The case was adjourned till April 16, 2014.

Malivelihood: The iPhone was a gift from us to the couple. We just thank the President and we hope he receives one of the only 10 iPhones we made for his daughter as a gift. [Like I] said in the other email, it was only 10, people got the statement wrong I think. But people saw the gift bag design made for them as well as a gift and they think it was phone inside the bag, so everything was misunderstood. Even the gifts have not got to the couple yet as they were busy.

Man kills Roommate during Fight over Cooking Pot (Photo)

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Ngwuta Nweke, for allegedly killing his friend in their apartment in the Sawmill area of Ebute Meta.

According to the police, the suspect strangled Emeka James during an argument over a cooking pot on March 22, 2014. But the suspect says he did not mean to kill his friend, but only strangled him in a bid to overpower him in a free fight.

He said:

“James is the owner of the apartment, I only started living with him about a month before the incident. I sell fuel pump for a living at Idumota and I did not have the money to secure an accommodation so James took me in.

On the day of the incident, I had some stew in a pot and James told me to empty the pot because he wanted to make use of it. I told him that I could not pour the stew anywhere and he should be patient, but he got angry. In a fit of rage, he picked up the pot and poured the stew into a dirty container. I also got angry and we started fighting. I grabbed him from behind and as we were struggling, we both fell to the ground. When I got up, I realised that James was no longer breathing.”

It was learnt that the deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Neighbours alerted policemen at the Denton Police Station after which the suspect was arrested and transferred to the homicide department of the SCID.

The landlord of the victim, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity, said he was surprised that the suspect was living with the deceased.

He said:

“I have known James since 2011 when he started living in the house. He was a good person and was very hardworking. He was a hawker, but when the state government began a clamp down of their activities, he started doing other menial jobs. I never knew anyone was living with James. It was when I was invited by the police that I saw the guy (Nweke) for the first time.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide confirmed the incident saying:

“On the fateful day, around 12.30pm, Nweke strangled James who lived in an apartment at Kadara slum, close to Sawmill, Ebute Meta, during a fight over a cooking pot. The corpse has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, while the matter is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.”

EBOLA VIRUS: Nigeria In Danger, Says Health Minister!

Nigerian authorities officially admitted last week Wednesday that Nigeria is in danger judging by the speed the Ebola virus had been moving eastward towards the country.

Responding to the questions by newsmen at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said that although Nigeria had not reported any case of the disease, the threat was already real.

There is currently no vaccine against Ebola virus, thus Chukwu urged Nigerians to immediately seek medical attention if they have fever.

However, the officials are doing everything possible to prevent the spread of the virus, coming from the Central African Republic: they are producing informational leaflets, jingles for radio and TV and work with various groups of the society.

According to the minister, as bats are source of infection, one can be infected by eating fruits contaminated with the virus.

He urged Nigerians not to neglect personal hygiene.

HILARIOUS: Man gets Jailed for Being ‘Too Good at Sex’

An Italian man named Romeo has been given a six month jail sentence after at least 12 angry neighbours complained to a judge that his noisy lovemaking kept them awake at night.

MirrorUk reports that according to 42 year old Romeo Artemio Lori's neighbours, Romeo ‘terrorised’ them with his sex sessions which go on for more than an hour. They eventually got so sick of Romeo's girlfriend's loud moaning, asked the Latin lovers to  tone down their lovemaking sessions but their repeated requests were ignored.

During the hearing, Romeo claimed he was being punished for "being too good at sex". But the judge said he found the neighbour's demands "reasonable" and sentenced Romeo to spend time alone in prison for six months

Russian Intelligence Claims MH370 Was ‘Hijacked And Presently in Afghanistan’, Passengers And Crew Alive

Russian intelligence sources have claimed that all passengers and crew members aboard the missing Malaysian Flight MH370 are alive and the plane was, in fact, hijacked and flown to Afghanistan.

A source in Russian’s FSB secret service has reportedly said that the plane was hijacked and flown close to the Afghan-Pakistan border and all people aboard the plane are currently being held hostage.

The intelligence source provided the data to a correspondent of a Russian newspaper, Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“Flight MH370 Malaysia Airlines missing on 8 March with 239 passengers was hijacked. Pilots are not guilty; the plane was hijacked by unknown terrorists. We know that the name of the terrorist who gave instructions to pilots is “Hitch.” The plane is in Afghanistan not far from Kandahar near the border with Pakistan,” the source was quoted as saying.

The Russian newspaper has said that the passengers have been divided into seven groups and are living in mud huts with almost no food, according to Daily Star.

The report said that 20 passengers who were Asian have been smuggled into a bunker in Pakistan. It is also claimed that the terrorists are possibly seeking to bargain with either America or China.

The news, however, has not been confirmed by authorities either in Malaysia or China and must be taken with caution as there are no credible evidence to prove that this is what has happened. Also, the news cannot be independently verified due to the anonymity of the source to the Russian newspaper.

A massive search team, currently coordinated by Australia, is searching for the wreckage for more than a month and recent pings possibly emitted by the blackbox have been considered the best lead so far.

Angus Houston, the head of a joint agency has said that they were confident that the signals heard were from the missing plane.

“I’m now optimistic that we will find the aircraft, or what is left of the aircraft, in the not-too-distant future -but we haven’t found it yet, because this is a very challenging business,” Houston said on Thursday.

Like an episode of a funny dream, the Enugu mystery ‘Pool of Bethesda’ has dried up. The only permanent thing in the world is change, and change has taken place.

Less than four months after its inundation, the popular Enugu mystery pool has dried up to surprised of those who were making money from it.

But some people are not giving up. They are excavating the soil in a bid to get whatever is left of the pool, just as new visitors who had come for healing in the pool are ready to pay anything to get a cup of water.

As days become weeks and weeks become months, many have realised that the pool has gone back to where it came from and the town itself which instantly became a tourist destination a few months back, has had a fair share of the change in fortunes.

The town has become like a ghostly abandoned place. Anyway, the villagers are hoping the pool will suddenly show up again so they can continue to make money for survival.

JAMB Exam Fails to Hold in Borno as Candidates Stay Home in Fear

Despite assurances as to adequate security given by the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Borno, the exams could not hold.

The  Zonal Coordinator of JAMB in the state, Ahmed Ali, had made attempts to reassure the candidates on their safety during the exam as he stated that they would all be protected.

It seems however that the reassurances were made in futility as the registrar of the exam body, Dibu Ojerinde has stated that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination could not hold in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Professor Ojerinde made the disclosure while monitoring the conduct of the UTME in Abuja yesterday.

Punch reports:

The board conducted its Dual-Based Test and Paper Pencil Test on Saturday with no fewer than 1,015,504 candidates writing the examination. The tests qualify the candidates for admission to the nation’s universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

Another batch of 616,574 candidates from May 17, 2014, will write the Computer-Based Test.

The board had last Tuesday assured that it had made adequate arrangements to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the UMTE in all the states, including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

But speaking on Saturday, Ojerinde said, “JAMB candidates who were supposed to go to Maiduguri to write their exams have decided to stay at home. There are about 400 of them. We have told them we will cater for them. They are afraid of what will happen to them.”

Ojerinde said the affected candidates would sit for CBT instead of the PPT that they initially applied to write.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, John Nwaobiala, who also spoke on the occasion, debunked reports that UTME candidates were among those attacked in Maiduguri.

He said, “There were some challenges that came up and the feeling was that since there were disturbances in that area, it might affect students movement.“

"What we are doing now is to ensure we have an opportunity.  The CBT is coming up so they will have the opportunity to write the examination. There will be no disenfranchisement of the candidate.”

"I just attended the wedding reception of President's Jonathan's daughter, Faith and her husband, Godswill.

Let me just give a slice of it; all these big men you guys see in power and out of it are all hustlers like you and me! The rush to enter the hall, ehn? Captains of industries and Government officials were in a flux and fight to enter the hall which was barricaded by stern security men at the International Conference Centre.

The protocol is that once the President enters the hall; the doors are shut and no one gets in or out till the President leaves.

So, there was a scramble to enter. Me sef shame for some people. Chai!

There were rumpled and creased clothes on people after the scramble. A couple of ladies lost their head scarves and head ties and gave us shocking glimpses of their 'Abolo' heads! Chai!

The President's Security detail at the venue were stern but professional. They didn't give a hoot who you were. Orders are orders.

Everyone who entered; those that mattered wanted to be seen by the President or First Lady and a small line of diffident favour-seekers or friends was formed but many could not pass through the security detail to just greet Mr President.

Let me shock you guys a bit. The biggest critics of President Jonathan, the opposition parties or cliques, the rabble-rousers and all were mostly there at the wedding! I was shocked! Ehn! Politicians! That's how they deceive you all by crying wolf and abusing the President yet they run to him to prostrate at night or in private!

Those of you who follow blindly these people una go see! Be careful!I even saw Dele Momodu, who lambast President Jonathan every week for the past four years on Thisday back page on Saturday, taking pictures and going round shaking hands. He shook my hands too. Egbon! Look, in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies: just permanent interests!

I must hand it to GEJ, he shielded his family from public glare. I mean; how many of us know he has three biological children and three adopted with this new bride being an adopted child he took in about 15 years ago? Very touching.

The couple got gifts of over 60 brand new cars as presents from what a close source told me. 'Bastardly rich' Nigerians fell over themselves to give presents. Chai!

There was a group of orange-scarved women who caused a stampede in the hall after the wedding rushing for gifts and stuff! Wetin? People nor get shame?

The presents given to the guests were magnifique! Not anything ostentatious but just cool.

This Nigeria is great, sha! Odiegwu!"

The story of  President Goodluck Jonathan's foster daughter Faith Sakwe who had her traditional wedding on Saturday remains unknown to many. City People reports Faith Sakwe is the daughter of late Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa State chieftain Mr. Sakwe who died in an auto crash a few years ago.

After his death, the Jonathan's decided to take full responsibility of Faith's welfare. Up to her university education, they didn't fail on this. It was while schooling at the University of Calabar that Faith met her fiancé Godswill Osim Edward. Their white wedding holds in Abuja on Saturday, 12th April 2014.

President Jonathan's son in law Godswill is from Cross River State. So they brought the carnival spirit down too for their wedding after party.
